Salmonella Investigation

The Grant County Health District has been investigating 10 cases of salmonella that have occurred in various communities in the county during 2007, including a possible cluster of a rare serotype, (salmonella senftenberg); 6 (total) cases were reported in Grant County in 05-06.

If you see a patient in your practice that you think may have salmonella, the testing of stool may aid in the diagnosis and would be required to confirm a case. Please, when possible, obtain information regarding travel, contact with animals, and food preparation, and consumption during the 3 days prior to symptoms. We are requesting that you notify the Health District at 509-766-7960 as soon as possible. We are requesting that laboratories also assure that timely notification takes place. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
