Zoonotic diseases are illnesses that people can get from animals or insects. Some examples include Rabies, West Nile Virus, Hantavirus, Q Fever, and Salmonella. GCHD staff help prevent these diseases by educating the public, offering advice about animals or insects that might carry disease, and investigating cases to find out where the disease came from and how it’s spreading to our communities.
