Avian Influenza Confirmed at Commercial Poultry Farm in Grant County
Risk to the public remains low; no human cases have been reported.
Update (October 15, 2025): Grant County Health District (GCHD) is working closely with a commercial poultry farm in Grant County following confirmation of avian influenza (bird flu) in chickens at the facility.
Staff from GCHD are investigating exposure to workers, testing symptomatic workers, providing antiviral medication to symptomatic workers, and offering training and monitoring the need for additional personal protective equipment. Some of the poultry workers reside in nearby counties and are working directly with their local health jurisdiction for support and testing.
Protect You and Your Family
The risk to the public is still low; however, people with job-related or recreational exposures to infected birds, cattle, or other potentially infected domestic or wild animals, are at higher risk and should take precautions.
Most human cases of bird flu have occurred due to close or prolonged contact with infected animals or their contaminated environments without proper protection. To reduce your risk, avoid contact whenever possible or wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when around infected animals. No human cases have been reported in Grant County.
If you have had recent exposure to animals or a person infected with bird flu and have symptoms, call GCHD at (509) 766-7960. If you need immediate medical attention, contact your doctor.
