[ARCHIVED] Water Quality Advisory Lifted for Pelican Horn Area of Moses Lake

GRANT COUNTY, WA — The Grant County Health District (GCHD) has lifted the water quality advisory for the Pelican Horn area of Moses Lake. The advisory was issued on July 10, 2025, following a sewage spill in the area.

Recent lake water testing confirms that E. coli levels have returned to levels considered normal for Moses Lake.

E. coli is a type of fecal coliform bacteria found in the feces of people, livestock, pets, and wildlife. While coliforms are common in lakes and other bodies of water, increased exposure may cause illness.

Incident Overview

On Monday, July 7th at 6:30 a.m., a sewage line was found broken near the lake’s shoreline on the 1300 block of Lakeside Drive. The City of Moses Lake responded quickly, shutting off the wastewater line and activating emergency protocols. The damaged line was successfully repaired within a week. Throughout the incident, GCHD and the City of Moses Lake conducted regular water testing. Testing results have shown steady improvement over the past several days, with levels now returning to the baseline typically seen in Moses Lake.

The team at GCHD would like to extend our appreciation to the City of Moses Lake for their prompt action in repairing the wastewater line and their assistance with lake water testing.
